Boutique Hotel Alhambra

Boutique Hotel Alhambra is a seaside hotel in Čikat Bay on Croatia's island of Lošinj. Historic villa architecture, a beach below the hotel and Alfred Keller's Michelin-starred dining give it a distinct identity. Pine trees surround the property, while balconies and terraces open toward the Adriatic. Cube Spa adds a heated indoor seawater pool to the coastal setting. The appeal is concentrated around the bay: swimming, a room with an outdoor outlook and dinner close to the water.

The hotel brings together Alhambra and Villa Augusta, with 36 rooms and 15 suites in total. Its two historic buildings date from 1908 and 1912, combining Art Nouveau and Neoclassical details with modern interiors. Austrian architect Alfred Keller designed the 1912 hotel, and his name lives on in its restaurant. The old buildings remain central to the stay, especially in the balconies and details that frame views of the sea.

Alhambra belongs to Lošinj Hotels & Villas and is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Mali Lošinj is within walking distance of the hotel at Čikat 16. The pine-wooded bay gives guests somewhere to walk outside the hotel as well as a waterfront to return to. There is a useful balance between staying close to the sea and being able to reach town on foot.

The Deluxe Double Room, Sea View, Balcony category spans 32 to 46 square meters. Its outdoor area may be a balcony, loggia or terrace, measuring between 8 and 23 square meters and furnished for sitting outside. These variations make the precise room layout worth considering alongside its sea view. Indoors, two beds, coffee and tea facilities, and bathroom floor heating provide a comfortable base for a coastal stay beyond the height of summer. Travertine and mosaic bathrooms have two sinks and a bidet, with a shower, bathtub or both.

For more living space, the Čikat Bay Suite measures 56 to 62 square meters. It has two beds, a balcony and a sea view. The room is a useful middle point in the collection, with a larger interior than the Deluxe category while keeping the bay in sight. Coffee and tea facilities, a pillow menu and Acqua di Parma bath products are among its fittings.

The 90-square-meter Augusta Grand Suite has three balconies facing the sea. Wrought-iron railings and outdoor furniture retain the villa's historic character, while two marble bathrooms provide bath and shower facilities. The balconies give this suite a particularly close relationship with the facade: outdoor space is divided among several openings onto the bay, rather than gathered onto one broad terrace.

The Luxury Suite extends to 110 square meters, with two bedrooms containing two beds each and carpeted living rooms. Its sea-view balcony and separate bedrooms suit friends or family sharing a stay.

Seasonal butler service is offered for the Augusta Suite, Augusta Grand Suite and Luxury Suite; confirm availability for your stay when reserving. Assistance can include unpacking, wardrobe care, morning coffee and arrangements for meals or outings.

Alfred Keller holds one Michelin star. Croatian chef Daniel Skokić leads the kitchen, drawing on local ingredients and ideas from abroad. Tasting menus and à la carte choices leave room for different kinds of dinner. Fish and seafood lead the menu, but meat dishes also have their place. The terrace looks across Čikat Bay, tying the setting of the meal to the coast that supplies much of its character. Reserve ahead and confirm seasonal dining arrangements, especially if a meal here is a main reason for visiting.

The ingredients give the restaurant a more precise sense of place than a broad Mediterranean label suggests. Olive oil comes from neighboring Cres, lemons from Lošinj, and island herbs feature alongside Croatian produce, fish and meat. Regional family farms contribute to the menus. A wine selection spanning Croatian and international labels accompanies the food, including wines that allow dinner to remain focused on Croatia.

For a Japanese dinner elsewhere in the bay, Matsunoki is at Hotel Bellevue, at Čikat 9. It is a separate hotel restaurant, not another dining room within Alhambra.

Cube Spa covers 660 square meters and has a heated indoor seawater pool, three treatment rooms and a spa suite with a rasul chamber. The wet area includes a Finnish sauna, Mediterranean bath, experience showers, heated benches and an ice fountain. A gym, manicure station and pedicure room complete the facilities. The indoor pool gives the hotel a swimming space away from the open sea, particularly useful when the weather calls for time inside.

Local plants also shape the spa's treatments and rituals. The Herbs of Lošinj tea ceremony combines pine and sage with local honey and figs. An inhalation bar draws on the island's historic spa traditions, while the signature botanical treatment uses locally distilled oils for a full-body massage. These details give Cube Spa a connection to Lošinj's landscape through ingredients and scent, without requiring a full day devoted to treatments.

The beach lies below the hotel, with a sun deck and access to the sea. Alhambra also has a private jetty for time beside the water. It is a waterfront shaped around swimming and sunbathing, with the pine setting continuing the character of the hotel above. After a swim, the bay remains a place to explore on foot. The hotel also lists yoga, cycling and forest bathing among its experiences.

Arrival requires a little more thought than a mainland beach stay. Rijeka and Pula airports are practical gateways, with private ground transfers to Mali Lošinj available through the hotel group. Zagreb is another supported transfer point. For journeys by road, the routes include a ferry to Cres, using either Valbiska to Merag or Brestova to Porozina, before continuing toward Lošinj. The crossing is part of the journey, so the flight and onward route need to work together.

Lošinj has its own airport, and private air transfers can be arranged from Pula, Rijeka or Zagreb. These are charter flights, followed by an onward transfer to the hotel. They provide an alternative to the road-and-ferry approach for guests who want to arrive directly on the island.

Why we love this hotel

Why we love this hotel

Alfred Keller cooks with island herbs, Lošinj lemons and olive oil from neighbouring Cres, letting you taste produce from the surrounding islands.

Cube Spa's heated indoor seawater pool offers a comfortable swimming option when you prefer to stay inside rather than head to the sea.

The managed beach provides deckchairs and parasols, with towels and a beach bag supplied in your room so there is less to pack.

What to Know About Boutique Hotel Alhambra

Is Boutique Hotel Alhambra worth it?

Yes. Boutique Hotel Alhambra is worth it for travelers who want a quiet luxury stay on Losinj Island, with 36 rooms, 15 suites, private beach access, Michelin-star dining, Alhambra Cube Spa, and views of Cikat Bay. The hotel is best for guests who value privacy, sea air, food, wellness, and a polished boutique atmosphere. It is more intimate than a large Adriatic resort.

Where is Boutique Hotel Alhambra located?

Boutique Hotel Alhambra is in Mali Losinj, Croatia, in the sheltered area of Cikat Bay. The hotel sits between the Cikat forest and the Adriatic Sea. This location is one of its main strengths. Guests can enjoy a private seaside setting while staying close to Mali Losinj harbor, promenades, restaurants, and island experiences.

How many rooms and suites does Boutique Hotel Alhambra have?

Boutique Hotel Alhambra has 36 rooms and 15 suites. Together, they create a 51-room boutique hotel that feels private and calm. The smaller scale is useful for travelers who want personal service and a quieter mood. It also helps the hotel feel more like a refined villa than a standard beach property.

Which room should I book at Boutique Hotel Alhambra?

Book a park-side or premium room if you want the Alhambra experience with a more efficient budget. These categories suit short stays and guests who plan to spend time at the beach and spa. Choose a suite if you want more space, stronger sea views, and a more special-occasion feel. Suites are better for honeymoons, anniversaries, and longer stays.

Does Boutique Hotel Alhambra have a private beach?
