Sofitel Moorea

Sofitel Moorea sits on the picturesque island of Moorea in French Polynesia. This beautiful place is famous for its stunning nature, colorful coral reefs, and clear blue lagoons. This review will provide you with an overview of this hotel. It will captivate you if you want a romantic getaway, an adventurous escape, or a tranquil retreat. Read on to discover why Sofitel Moorea is truly a slice of paradise on Earth.

Overview

The Sofitel Moorea sits on a fantastic lagoon's shore with a Tahiti view. The resort has 113 luxury bungalows built on the water or near TeMae Beach. Two restaurants, a pool, and a day spa are among the facilities. Moorea is also home to one of the most stunning beaches in the world. Besides, guests can enjoy a range of water sports. This includes scuba diving and non-motorized activities.

Moreover, you can reach Moorea in 10 minutes by plane or ferry from Tahiti. The tropical paradise has lush rainforests and mountains that rise from the Pacific Ocean. The resort also offers a variety of activities for both couples and families. You can also dive, go sailing, and explore the pineapple fields. Plus, sample some Polynesian food.

Location

The Sofitel Moorea is just 5 minutes away from the ferry. It also offers excellent beach views and easy access. Tahiti's twinkling lights are a stunning sight at night. Sunrises are also spectacular. However, the sun sets earlier than usual due to its location over the mountains. Lush rainforests and enchanting lagoons also characterize this tropical paradise. It has a lot to offer for families and couples alike.

Backstory

An American expat built The resort in 1970 as 15 bungalows. In 1977, it added 35 rooms and received the name Kia Ora. This is a Maori greeting that means "be healthy." The French hotel giant Accor bought the property in 1987 when it became part of the Sofitel group.

The resort was renovated in 2006. It also added a second branch with luxury horizon overwater bungalows. 2007 the resort reopened as the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort. It has 114 rooms. All bungalows underwent a soft renovation in 2023.

Rooms

There are 114 guest rooms. The bungalows are simple and island chic, with dark wood furniture and ceiling fans. They also feature luxurious bathrooms with double sinks and rain showers. The tropical color palette is inspired by the painter Paul Gauguin. He was the most well-known supporter of French Polynesia. The bungalows also have direct access to the lagoon for swimming or snorkeling. They also feature a floor glass panel that frames the seabed.

The waterfront villas also offer privacy and unobstructed views of Tahiti's lagoon and ocean. The airy, luxury villa is perfect for a small group or family getaway. It has two bedrooms with king beds. There is also a couch in the living area. Plus, an outdoor deck features a Jacuzzi and panoramic views.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The all-day Pure restaurant offers a vast breakfast buffet. This comes complete with an omelet station, pancakes, and tropical fruits. There are also baked goodies galore. This includes Polynesian delights like coconut bread. Moreover, lunchtime is a great time to try a take on ceviche with coconut milk, tuna, and lime.

Besides, Vue Bar is the social hub of the resort. It overlooks the lagoon. Enjoy a pina colada made with local rum. There are also light snacks like sweet potato hummus with pita bread and prawns with chili sauce. You can also head to K for a fine dining experience on the beachfront. Chef Frederic Gigou will impress you with his five or seven-course menu.

Restaurant Pure

Pure is a modern restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy your meals in a relaxed setting while enjoying the view of the lagoon and the island.

K Restaurant

The K Restaurant also provides a magical view of Tahiti's lagoon. Enjoy the cuisine of world-class chef Marc Lintanf in an intimate and romantic setting.

Vue

Here, the lagoon is in front of the pool. It's Polynesian style. Enjoy South Pacific exotic cocktails. This venue has French Polynesia's most extensive collection of liqueurs. It is also a snacks and ice cream counter. Plus, there's weekly entertainment.

Beach Bar

The Beach Bar is on Tahiti's longest white sand beach. It also has a view of Tahiti and the lagoon. It offers snacks and cocktails.

Pool

The resort has a fantastic swimming pool. Visit the nearby island of Tahiti to explore the surrounding heavenly scenery. Besides, relax and enjoy the view of the green hills that rise into the Moorea Sky.

Spa

Professional treatments are tailored to meet your specific needs. They will help you relax, tone, de-stress, and activate your entire body. Moreover, Le Jardin will immerse you in a state of deep relaxation. The therapists will also offer you a range of luxurious treatments based on natural ingredients and pure essential oils. These include raw coconut oil and orange zest.

Area

The Sofitel lagoon is a motorized vehicle-free zone. Thanks in part to the environmental protection program that began in the 90s. This restriction helps create a tranquil atmosphere for guests and the underwater wildlife at Sofitel.

Family-Friendly

A resident coral gardener and marine biologist offers family-friendly coral gardening experiences. His passion for Moorea's unique marine environment is contagious. He will make you want to join him. The resort also offers three ADA-accessible bungalows. These include two bungalows on ground level and one option over water.
