Palazzo Avino

Palazzo Avino is a 5-star top-notch hotel. It sits within the clifftop village of Ravello, overlooking the Mediterranean coastline of Italy. This gorgeous hotel with its rose-colored façade is known as the 'Pink Palace' with amenities, service, décor, and style to justify the regal epithet. Avino is considered one of the finest hotel resorts in the world.

Location

This luxury hotel is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for great views of Italy's famous Amalfi coast. With its location in the historic town of Ravello, you'll be 1000ft. above sea level. Plus, there are beautiful views of the fishing villages below.

Moreover, many interesting sites dating back to the Middle Ages are just a few moments from the property. The nearest international airport is some way off at Naples. It's about one hour's drive - but there are smaller airports closer to the resort.

Furthermore, the train connections to Amalfi and Vietri Sul Mare are excellent. And the drive along the coast is beautiful, too, so renting a car is the way to go.

History

The hotel building is an authentic antique. It was initially built in the 12th century as a luxury villa for the wealthy Sasso family. But over the centuries, it's changed hands many times, and now it's a popular spot for foreigners.

The lovely setting attracted many artists and writers to Ravello. These include Virginia Woolf, E.M Forster, D.H Lawrence, and Salvador Dali. The resort also played host to heads of state and global glitterati. Today, it remains a magnet for VIPs and lovers of this coastal location.

Style and Hospitality

The villa was renovated and reopened as a hotel in 1997. Now, it combines the heritage features with every modern amenity. Similarly, the décor is nice with references to its historical past and Italian styling.

Additionally, service is excellent in all areas of the hotel. Concierge services can also arrange excursions, events, and any other guests' needs. Villa Sasso became Palazzo Sasso. However, in 2013 it became Palazzo Avino in honor of the family who recreated this Amalfi dream. The Avino family still owns and runs this famous hotel to the highest standards of Italian hospitality.

Features

The hotel makes full use of the location with stunning terraces. There is also a Michelin-starred restaurant with views over the Gulf of Salerno. Moreover, a bar specializes in lobster dishes with Prosecco, Champagne, or Martinis. Italianate gardens also surround the property.

Additionally, there is a spa and fitness center, rooftop solarium, and hydro pool. Not to mention the 20ft. heated pool with an under-the-water window. A 15-minute complimentary shuttle takes guests to a private seaside clubhouse with a small swimming pool, restaurant, and beach access.

There is a meeting room and an on-site boutique that sells jewelry and clothes for business visitors and private events. Wi-fi is also accessible in all areas.

Furthermore, children are welcome, and pets go free. Accessibility is also good throughout the hotel. Concierge services arrange excursions by land, air, or sea. These include tickets for the Ravello Summer Music Festival.

Rooms and Suites

Many of the 43 rooms and suites have views of the sea. Others have pleasant views of the cobbled streets and gardens around the hotel. Suites have terraces. And although these are a little pricey, the fabulous views certainly justify the expense.

Additionally, the décor is modern, with antiques, brocades, and deluxe fabrics. There are also comfortable beds and marble bathrooms with frette robes and bath toiletries. Moreover, some rooms have Jacuzzi baths and glass shower rooms with rainfall showerheads. Modern amenities include free Wi-fi, flat-screen TV, air conditioning, iPod dock, and mini-bar.

Furthermore, suites feature breathtaking views, lots of marble and Vietri-tiled floors, and fine furnishings. There are also Italian frette linens, gilt-edged mirrors, and oriental rugs.

Pristine white walls set off the lavish styling. Plus, graceful arches are reminders of the villa's long history.

Dining

Rossellini's is the Palazzo Avino's Michelin-starred restaurant. It's under the direction of gourmet chefs Giovanni Vanacore and Michele Deleo. This restaurant is world-class with stunning views, Neapolitan cuisine, and the finest Italian wines.

Additionally, a large terrace enables guests to begin the day with a breakfast buffet overlooking the sea. For more casual dining, the Caffe dell'Arte is an all-day eatery serving tasty snacks and a wide choice of drinks.

The Terrazza Belvedere offers cocktails, grills, and light meals at lunchtime. It overlooks the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Pizza and pasta dishes are also available at the Clubhouse by the Sea. Room service is available around the clock.

Drinking

100 Martinis plus Champagne and Prosecco accompany a lobster menu at the Lobster and Martini Bar. The bar opens in the evening as the sun sets on the shimmering sea.

Spa

Next to the heated swimming pool, this modern facility is under a vaulted ceiling in the original stately style of the villa. Moreover, treatments here use products with local fruit-based extracts. These include Sorrento Lemon, Vesuvio Apricot, and Annurca Apple. Facilities include a Turkish bath, sauna, hydro massage pool, and many treatments for the face and body.

Fitness Center

The hotel offers a good gym in the gardens with lovely views and cabanas providing privacy. The gym includes cardio equipment, weights, and other exercise machines.

Children

This family-friendly resort is known for arranging many events and outings suitable for all ages. This is the only hotel in Ravello to have a shuttle and beach club facility.

The beach is popular with young guests, as are the pizzas in the restaurant. Moreover, extra beds and cots are available on request in most rooms. Plus, a babysitting service is also available.

Takeaway

The Palazzo Avino is one of the most beautiful hotels on the Amalfi coast. It's a great place to stay if you want to enjoy the lovely scenery and delicious food this region is famous for.
