This castle hotel is on a small island of the Krka River. It is just off the Zagreb to Ljubljana highway. An attractive socialist-realist sculpture greets the entrance. They dedicated it to 1960s volunteers who built the highway along the river. The hotel is also halfway between Zagreb and Ljubljana. It's a great place to stop for lunch at the restaurant. Moreover, the Oto?ec Golf Course sits between the forest and the river Krka. It is one of the most extended golf courses in the country.
The building is a cultural and natural landmark in Slovenia and one of its most beautiful images. Sources mention the castle as far back as 1252. Over the centuries, its hands and its appearance have changed. Today, it is home to the Otocec Hotel. The river Krka embraces the castle. It must be made clear who or when the Otocec Castle was built. The original location has yet to be discovered either. It was initially supposed to be on the right side of the Krka River. Only one of its owners ordered that a portion of land be excavated to the right of the castle to protect it against enemies from all sides.
First, the castle belonged to a family of islanders. Then, it was owned by the Vilanders. Finally, the castle housed Baron Lenkovic. Among them was the famous Jurij Lenkovic, the Carniola provincial governor in the 16th Century. They then sold it to Wolf Jakob Solnec by the Dovolec Family. The castle's last owner was Count Margheri.
Castles are often redesigned over the years, but there have always been architectural pieces that remain. A Renaissance portal with medallions in the form of a female profile, dating from the 16th Century, is one of the most important witnesses to the past.
In 1942, the partisans burned down the castle and its two bridges. The castle underwent a major renovation in 1952. It began with a roof renovation and finished six years later with international work brigades. They also renovated the first restaurant in the castle in 1959. The castle's appearance also changed over the years until it reached its present state. In this period, they renovated one of Slovenia's most famous hotels, Grad Oto?ec Hotel.
This castle in Slovenia has 16 rooms and suites. They ordered and built all the furniture locally. Moreover, they used parquet flooring in the bathrooms to provide warmth and comfort. Besides, the beds, bathtubs, plasma TVs, and floor-to-ceiling curtains are all large. This makes even standard rooms look like ostentatious apartments. There are ten stylish double rooms to choose from. There are also senior suites, a superior suite, and junior suites. Free Wi-Fi is also available.
The Castle restaurant's team of chefs provides guests with healthy, fresh, and colorful food. Delicious dishes with exciting flavors come to life. Chef Nejc Ban and his team were praised for using fresh, quality ingredients and a delightful meal. They emphasize using local products and specialties.
Oto?ec Castle has a picturesque setting. It is also Slovenia's only water castle. This beautiful castle park dates back to the late 18th or early 19th Century. The area also contains many native tree species. These include white willow, black poplar, black alder, and some exotic ones.
Moreover, the Krka River is home to 32 species of fish, many of which are rare. Catfish and huchen are among the most popular among fishermen. The white swan bumps are also a unique attraction in Otocec. These migrated here in 1968. Today, there are over 50.
