Sheltered in the iconic Urseren Valley of Switzerland, you'll find The Chedi Andermatt. It's a luxury hotel that takes advantage of the beautiful alpine forests, mountains, and lakes that define the area. Standing at nearly 1,500 meters above sea level, the view inside The Chedi is almost as impressive as the view outside.
The perfect location for convenience and relaxation is only a few hours from Munich, Stuttgart, Milan, and Zurich. Moreover, take a breezy 2.5-hour train ride from Zurich Airport and arrive at the Andermatt train station opposite the hotel. Guests will also find a handful of bakeries, shops with locally handcrafted goods, and restaurants near the train station.
At first blush, guests may be surprised to learn that the hotel incorporates Swiss and Asian elements. However, upon arrival, it will become evident that the granite and wood design of The Chedi, along with its accompanying tower chalets, fits right into its Swiss alpine surroundings.
Guests enter the lobby and feel welcomed in the cozy yet cavernous area. Thanks to the roaring fireplaces (over 200 throughout the hotel), alpine wood and deep armchairs fill the space. The 90-foot granite bar that doubles as a reception desk is another feature that lends itself to the unique yet welcoming environment.
As Japanese paper lamps cast soft shadows on Balinese art and fur-covered cushions, you will appreciate the unique design of the one and only Jean-Michel Gathy - Asian flair combined with a rustic alpine retreat.
Additionally, in the middle of the three main wings, there is a peaceful courtyard. There is also a large reflecting pond, adding to the property's charm. Besides, the pond offers guests a breathtaking view of the nearby Gemsstock Mountain.
All 123 of the rooms and suites come with state-of-the-art details and décor. Dream-worthy Hastens box-spring beds come standard in every room and suite, along with electric fireplaces and a terrace overlooking the natural beauty of Andermatt. Looking out at the snow-covered mountains, guests will be grateful for the bathrooms' heated floors and freestanding soaking tubs.
There are seven different types of rooms or suites. The Deluxe Rooms are decorated with murals, wood paneling, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Moreover, they offer the standard fireplace and Hastens bed. The Grand Deluxe Rooms, residing on the top floors, also provide the same room amenities but with an impressive view of the natural beauty that surrounds the hotel.
Additionally, the Junior Deluxe Suite offers almost 1,000 square feet to stretch out. Furthermore, the Deluxe Suite also offers separate living room and dining room (some even come with a stocked wine cabinet!).
The Grand Deluxe Suites and Gemsstock Suite are in The Chedi Residences wing, and each has spacious balconies with phenomenal views. Besides, the Furka Suite has three bedrooms and can sleep up to eight people. Additionally, the two-story Gotthard Suite is the premier suite of the hotel. It boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms, and almost 4,000 square feet of luxury, and even can host more extra beds. The bathroom amenities are from Acqua di Parma.
What's more, alpine chic meets Asian inspiration throughout the property and in all of the rooms. No matter which room you choose, you'll get a view of the Swiss Alps, Schollenen Gorge, or the village of Andermatt.
The Michelin-starred Japanese Restaurant combines fine Western dining with sushi, sashimi, and tempura dishes. Glamorous chandeliers and oak wood make for an inviting ambiance as chefs cook in the open kitchen. However, guests should be sure to make a reservation at this popular yet, private spot. Moreover, the selection of beer, sake, wine, and champagne ensures you find a perfect pairing, no matter what dish you select.
The Restaurant awarded 15 Gault Millau points, offers four studio kitchens, each showcasing a different take on European and Asian cuisine. In addition, guests can enjoy a spectacular breakfast buffet with Swiss cheese from the cheese cellar every morning.
A rustic chalet also turns into a small pop-up restaurant in the winter. Here, classic Swiss entrees are paired with the best selection of wines from Europe.
After a long day on the slopes, head to The Bar for a post-ski cocktail, beer, or sake. In addition, the lobby offers fruit, egg dishes, smoothies, cereals, pastries, and other snacks for a light meal. Just off the entrance, there is also a wine and cigar lounge where guests can mingle.
Just off the lobby and part of the 2,400-square-foot wellness center, guests will find a large indoor swimming pool and an entourage of relaxing recliners. If you'd instead breathe in the fresh alpine air while you swim, there's also a heated outdoor pool for guests to enjoy.
You'll find steam rooms (also called a hammam), saunas, and a steam bath. There are also plunge pools inspired by the people of Finland. Treatments incorporate healing Eastern traditions, and there is even targeted therapy for jet lag. There are ten spa suites where guests can enjoy one (or a couple) of the offered treatments. Guests can also visit the salon for any hair service they desire.
The wellness center also includes a fully-stocked gym with cardio and weight-lifting equipment. Personal trainers are also on staff. Besides, you can schedule a session to stay in shape while on vacation. Pilates and yoga classes are also available year-round.
The Urseren Valley is an outdoor lover's paradise surrounded by natural beauty. There is powder-fresh snow covering the Gemsstock and Natschen Mountains for snowboarders and skiers alike to take advantage of in the winter. Moreover, there are ample trails for mountain biking, walking, and hiking in the summer months at any level.
Additionally, there is plenty of fishing to do in the nearby lakes. Or, guests can enjoy 18 holes at the nearest golf course, which is just a fifteen-minute walk away.
The concierge is available 24/7. Here, they can help you make arrangements and plan the details of your stay. However, if you're looking for advice on hitting the slopes, you'll want to take advantage of the hotel's "ski butlers." They will assist you with obtaining ski lift passes, heating your beats, or giving tips on the best runs. Besides, inside the hotel, you will find a library, jewelry, and retail shop. WiFi is also available throughout the hotel.
Nestled among the beauty of the Swiss Alps, the award-winning Chedi Andermatt is a family-friendly gem of a hotel where the east meets the west. The quiet town offers the perfect backdrop for a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway, whether you're spending all day on the slopes or in the spa. When you stay at The Chedi, you're in for a treat.
