Home of the Mont Cervin Palace Zermatt in Switzerland is one of Europe's most renowned ski centers. Zermatt is also famous for mountain climbing and the mighty Matterhorn's challenge, which dominates the town lying at its feet.
Opening in 1853, the Seiler family took over the Mont Cervin shortly after when the great age of European mountaineering was nearing its climax. Then, with the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn by Edward Whymper in 1865, the village of Zermatt was catapulted into fame.
Tourists began arriving, and mountain skiing became famous as the 20th century got underway. This turned Zermatt into a prime winter sports hub. Asa result, the resort developed alongside these changes into the 5-star luxury palace hotel it is today.
The Mont Cervin lies below Matterhorn Mountain's towering and graceful triangle in the heart of Zermatt and close to the train station. It is in a landscape of 4000m snowy peaks. Moreover, the splendid and majestic exterior matches the grandeur of the setting. Besides, the interior is one of warmth and charm in an upgraded chalet style.
Lots of wood, plush seating, welcoming winter wood fires, and Swiss hospitality greet skiers. In summer, guests can enjoy a carpet of greenery over the mountains, which hikers especially appreciate. Zermatt is a town in a German-speaking part of Switzerland bordering northern Italy. It attracts visitors from all over Europe and far beyond.
The hotel is central and benefits from the railway station's proximity to and from major cities. Also, visitors can connect to Gornergrat via the open-air cog railway, where they can enjoy spectacular views from the summit.
Zermatt provides excellent restaurants, designer shopping, bars, and entertainment. The town banned fossil-fueled cars many years ago as the pollution was damaging the views of the mountain.
Since then, visitors and locals have benefitted from the pure mountain air, although electric vehicles have made transport easier within the town. The hotel has a familiar red horse-drawn carriage on all postcards and photos of the attractive turreted hotel.
Mont Cervin has expanded and been sensitively modernized over the decades and is now connected via a tunnel to the adjoining Villa Margarita. Once only 14 rooms, the buildings today have 107 luxury rooms spread over the two buildings. It also borders a choice of the chalet or elegant Alpine style.
All beautifully appointed, those with mountain views are naturally superior and expensive. However, guests often feel that the iconic Matterhorn is worth it. Some rooms and suites have sunny balconies and fine Zermatt views. Also, they include beautiful furnishings, luxury bathrooms with tubs, showers, and a range of fine toiletries.
Colors are restrained with soothing tones of dark chocolate, coffee, and cream and subtle soft green and orange touches. The many in-room facilities include cable TV, Wi-fi, and a mini-bar. Suites add more lounge and dining, workstations, and additional beds.
The Mont Cervin also offers opulent accommodation in several spacious and swish suites. The Alpine Junior suite, Classic and Matterhorn, and the Castor and Pollux suites have many additional deluxe features, golden-brown wood, master bedrooms, and jacuzzis.
The Matterhorn, of course, has the finest views of the mountain. The Resident Chalet suites range in size to be suitable for 1-4 guests. The family-sized chalets have open fireplaces, beautiful expansive balconies with panoramic views, whirlpools, or separate saunas.
The hotel aims to provide the finest dining for guests of all tastes, moods, and occasions. Following the trend of many first-class hotels, Mont Cervin uses select local, regional, and seasonal products in all its dining areas. Most of the dining rooms continue with the feel of a luxury chalet with wood and warm brown, golden, and copper décor.
La Belle Epoque is an exception to the chalet style. It entails rich crimson velvet chairs, high stucco ceilings and walls, fine paintings, and sparkling chandeliers. Diners are transported back to the cultural milieu of the end of 19th century France in this elegant romantic brasserie with superb cuisine to match.
The hotel also has an award-winning Japanese-style restaurant, Myoko, and Peruvian and Asian-inspired dishes at La Muna. Moreover, there is an international choice at the top-notch Le Restaurant.
The superb Grill le Cervin and several other eateries provide all-day dining, with Ristorante Capri at the pinnacle of gourmet dining. This Michelin-starred restaurant has Mediterranean-inspired dishes in an opulent dining room sparkling with cut-glass, silver cutlery, and soft deep purple seating.
First-class in-room meal service is also available for guests.
Joseph's Bar and Terrace offers drinks and snacks in a warm, inviting room or on the terrace in fine weather. Cocktails and live music are also features of this bar, and teas are served here too.
The Capri bar echoes the restaurant's good standards with light meals, drinks (notably Cuban rum), and sensational views. Coffee, delicious snacks, and beverages are served from midday to 10.00 pm in Edwards Bar-Café, named after the famous Matterhorn mountaineer.
The hotel has an impressive spa and wellness area with a heated indoor pool or outdoor pool and a grassy lounge area in summer. A whirlpool and children's pool are also available in the complex.
Finnish saunas, steam baths and footbaths, and indulgent face and body treatments using luxury Swiss biological anti-aging products provide guests with the most enjoyable pampering.
There is plenty to do for children in Zermatt. All-age skiing tuition is available at ski schools, and the hotel's outdoor pool provides a lot of fun in the summer. Besides, Mont Cervin runs a children's club with various activities. These include cooking and crafts and also organizing an entertainment program for them.
The Mont Cervin Palace in Zermatt is one of the world's most prestigious hotels in a central location. Sitting just under the majestic Matterhorn and surrounded by the Swiss Alps' high peaks, Zermatt lies close to the Italian border.
It benefits from the snowy winter ski pistes and mild sunny conditions in the warmer months. The Mont Cervin is ideally situated to give the finest accommodation at any time of the year.
