Hotel Cafe Royal is a historical gem on Regent Street in Piccadilly, London. It is a historic hotel that has hosted many famous people. Past patrons include popular names like Oscar Wilde, Virginia Wolfe, and Winston Churchill. Also, George Bernard Shaw, Elizabeth Taylor, Muhammed Ali, and Princess Diana, among many others.
Designed by David Chipperfield, this luxury hotel is in London's heart, next to Mayfair and Soho, and part of The Set Hotels. This is a collection of three grand hotels in famous cities worldwide. However, Hotel Café Royal is their Central London location. Other hotels of The Set include Hotel Lutetia in Paris and Conservatorium in Amsterdam.
It started back in 1865. Daniel Nicholas Thévenon, a French wine merchant who left France because of bankruptcy, started Café Royal and his wife, which flourished under their management. At one point, it had the best wine cellar worldwide. It was also a popular place for celebrities to visit; however, it closed in 2008 for restoration purposes. It later opened its gates again in December 2012. Only this time as a part of The Set Hotels.
The hotel sits majestically in Central London's heart, with Mayfair to the North East and Soho to the South. Hence, many of London's attractions are a short distance away. For example, the British Museum, Buckingham Palace, Theatreland, and Westminster all lie within a 1.6 km radius so that guests can go over quickly. Moreover, it is only a short 6 minutes walk from Saville Road, Oxford Street, and Bond Street's shopping areas.
Café Royal is a London landmark with a perfect hierarchy and contemporary design balance. There are large marble-clad reception areas that speak of its grandeur. The original insignia from 1865, Art deco fireplaces, stained glass, gold-leafed, scarlet velveted rooms, Louis XIV detailing, a tea room, and a caviar and champagne lounge further accentuate its appearance.
Moreover, going from the grand reception to the more private areas of the building feels like a walk-in time. The hallways also feature a sleek, modern look, while the rooms are minimalistic with all modern facilities.
It offers 160 domestic spaces, including 107 guestrooms and 53 suites. However, the interior is not robust or showy. Instead, they are decorated contemplatively with well-defined contours and frugally used elegant colors.
The atmosphere is also soothing, with pale furniture receding into the background. Besides, each guestroom or suite contains luxury bathroom amenities and complimentary Wi-Fi. There are also media hubs and Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems. Some suites also feature minibars loaded with soft drinks and snacks. Besides, most suites are staffed with butlers, and you can enjoy room upgrades.
Various options are available for guests to choose the suite or room that best fits their requirements and preferences. These spaces have been designed to offer a personalized experience to the guests. All the accommodation options feature basic and advanced amenities that can enhance the living experience of the occupants.
The guests' favorite rooms at the Hotel Cafe Royal are the Superior and Grand Superior guest rooms. These feature king-sized beds and the latest entertainment options. On the other hand, guests also fall in love with the deluxe rooms. These are slightly bigger than the grand superior rooms and offer an even better experience.
As mentioned above, junior suites are available that are bigger than the standard guestrooms. However, they are smaller than some of the other suites, including Deluxe Suites and Westminster Suite. Moreover, the Presidential Suites, Royal Suites, and Dome Penthouse are the most well-decorated and super luxurious suites.
The luxury suites offer various luxury amenities, including a dedicated kitchen. You can enjoy the time of your life at this fantastic facility, not settling for anything less than perfection. The most common amenities and luxury features include a king-size bed, kitchenette, and big-size bathrooms. Additionally, there is a rainfall shower, a separate lounge, and a dedicated dining room.
Guests are given all the options to choose the apartment that meets their expectations. Moreover, the hotel staff ensures the true satisfaction of its valued guests. They do their job by providing premium services that you can expect at any luxury facility. In short, it is a home away from home for anyone looking to spend quality time with their loved ones.
Hotel Cafe Royal is home to some of London's best restaurants and bars. The most notable is Laurent. Run by the internationally renowned chef Laurent Tourondel, it offers a refined all-day dining experience.
The Oscar Wilde Lounge was a part of the original café. Restored to its original glory, it is a great place to sip your afternoon tea while enjoying legendary tales.
At Cakes & Bubbles, the World's Best Pastry Chef, Albert Adria, serves an exceptional collection of deserts alongside sparkling wines and champagne.
The Green Bar is known for its Cafe Royal Cocktail Book-inspired menu. W.J. Tarling, a former bartender at Cafe Royal's fabled Grill Room, wrote it.
The Ziggy's bar, paying a playful homage to David Bowie's alter ego Ziggy Stardust, is certainly not a place to miss.
Another famous service at the Hotel Café Royal is the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing. Moreover, the spa and wellness center offers nine treatment rooms, a steam room, a gym, a sauna, a Watsu pool, and a full-sized pool. Here you can experience everything from nutrition, meditation, and Reiki. The staff is also proficient at performing training, treatment, or therapy. So even if you are not staying on-site, it deserves a visit.
If you want to experience premium service, nothing beats Hotel Café Royal. It has a vast experience of hosting celebrities and royalty, so they will take care of you, too – right from the moment you walk in their door.
