The L'Oscar London was created from an ex-Baroque-styled, Grade II listed church in Holborn. It is a vibrant literary hub that also houses a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars that make up the heart of one of London's best high-end districts. Imagination and attention to detail are woven into the structure of the building. Think elegantly-decorated bedrooms, velvet and leather interiors, beautiful chandeliers, and crystal butterfly wing taps. The hotel is unique in its sophistication. It sits in the heart of London's historic Bloomsbury, on London's Southampton Row.
L'Oscar London's history is just as fascinating as its future. Construction took place from 1901-1903 according to the "Edwardian Free Baroque" style. The building was used as the headquarters of the Baptist Church in London. Arthur Keen, an architect who mixed Renaissance style with Arts & Crafts influences, created much of the exterior and interior design. He worked with some of the most talented artists and artisans at the time.
Unfortunately, a bomb destroyed the fifth floor during World War II. As a result, the church's membership declined over time, with only 12 people attending the chapel on Sunday mornings. Soon afterward, it was closed to worshippers. London Transport bought the building before its revival in 2012. Skilled artisans beautifully restored many of its features. However, Michel Reybier Hospitality has now taken over the hotel.
OverviewOriginal Doulton terracotta panels from the Bible still decorate the walls. However, L'Oscar London celebrates a more sensual love with leather-draped walls and bespoke scents by Roja Dove and leather. The hotel is unique in its location on London's Southampton Row. It is within a short distance of Theatreland, Soho, and the City. The hotel has a lovingly designed interior by designer Jacques Garcia. It features rich hues gilded in gold. As you drift around on your king-sized bed, relax on your soft pillow and enjoy room service. You don't have to leave your bedroom, but you can enjoy a seductive surprise with delicious cocktails and food.
The hotel is in Holborn. It is also on the hot Central Line. There are also excellent connections to the City and Oxford Street, and the theater district is just a short walk away. It is near Covent Garden, and the Royal Opera House is just some feet away.
The lobby is like a lothario's library. Moreover, with a mirrored ceiling and orange LED lights, the lounge on the opposite side of the corridor exudes a disco vibe. Once a Baptist Church, the building retains a sense of grandeur despite all its quirky touches. Additionally, original stained-glass windows flood the staircases with golden light.
The 39 guest rooms are among the most luxurious and comfortable in the city. The beds are comfortable, with soft sheets and pillows. Moreover, the bathrooms are spacious, with all the amenities you could need. Plus, the views from the deluxe rooms are simply beautiful. You'll also have plenty of natural light to enjoy during your stay. The heads are in gold-threaded peacock feathers. Old oil paintings of women with Vivien Leigh's eyebrows are all over the sage green walls.
You might also find furniture from the original building in suites like the L'Oscar Suite. Besides, the bathrooms have separate sinks for men and women. Some toiletries are scented with more perfume than those on the ground floor.
All rooms have free Wi-Fi. Laundry is also available. Plus, each room has a flat-screen TV, minibar, and complimentary bottled water.
L'Oscar London was created with the idea that a hotel should be a theater. So it is where you'll find high-quality performances. Plus, they consider every detail for your enjoyment. This boutique hotel offers a red-carpet experience and a dining experience where luxury meets temptation.
L'Oscar Restaurant, located on the ground floor, is the hotel's heartbeat. Moreover, the hotel's onyx bar and decor are an inspiration for Venice's oldest cafe. It features walls and ceilings adorned with mirrors, gilded panels, and original art. As a result, L'Oscar London has all the charm and sophistication that Parisian cafes can offer. It is the perfect place for delicious A la carte and full breakfasts, bistro-style lunches, and intimate evening dining.
Additionally, the Baptist Bar is perfect for a late-night chat, an early rendezvous, or catching up over cocktails. You can enjoy the extravagant Old and New Testament cocktails. Or, you can join the in-the-know to catch the exclusive program featuring visiting musicians at this chic London hideaway.
The Blue Tree Yard is next to the Baptist Bar. The sheltering canopy is a copper-colored tree with whole blue blossoms decorated with birdcages. This is ideal for enjoying a cocktail or browsing the extensive cigar menu.
Traditional sweets and savory treats get a modern twist. You will find Adam and Eve's dessert, Devil's cake, and afternoon tea without scones with cream and jam. Moreover, the Saints have the option of a wide range of teas to wash it down. Sinners can enjoy scrumptious tea-based cocktails.
L'Oscar Hotel will take care of your dog as long as it is under 15kg. Guide dogs are not exempt. Your four-legged friend will get food, water bowls, and a bed for a flat fee. However, there are very few dog-friendly rooms. Please mention your pets when you make your reservation.
All ages can come here. However, the hotel's personality makes it more adult-oriented. Babysitting and toys for children can be provided. But, you must make reservations at least two days in advance.
All common areas and some guest rooms are accessible for wheelchairs. But, to ensure guests are comfortable, the hotel might need to measure their wheelchairs.
