In St. Andrews, Scotland, the Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa is probably best known as the Resort in "the Home of Golf." The 150th Open Championship will be held at the Old Course Hotel, which has a great view of the famous links courses, the water, and Scotland's beautiful coast. The event's official host hotel is the Old Course Hotel.
The vast sweep of its stone-clad facade pulls visitors to the property as soon as they step inside the Old Course-facing suites. Many accommodations and suites. Plus, the fourth-floor Road Hole Restaurant and its adjacent bar, with views over this famed links course next to West Sands Beach. Not to mention the waves slamming against the Scottish coastline.
From this luxury golf and wellness resort, you can see the Old Course, which is the oldest golf course in the world, and some of St. Andrews' most famous links courses. The airport in Edinburgh is an hour away and both the Leuchars train station (with direct trains from Kings Cross, York, and Newcastle). Plus, you can reach the private airfield near Dundee in ten minutes by car.
In addition to the famous 19th Hole and the Tom Morris 18th hole, the hotel has beautiful views of Swilcan Bridge, where all the champions have stood for photos. Moreover, from this spot, you can see the beach race from the movie Chariots of Fire, the R&A (Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews), and the Hamilton Grand (built by Thomas Hamilton in 1895 to eclipse the R&A, who had blackballed him).
In 1968, a hotel was built where there used to be a train station. The most attractive part of the complex is the Jigger Inn. This is a charming old stationmaster's house that is painted white. In 2004, Herb Kohler, a millionaire from the United States, bought it. He takes good care of the Old Course, which you would expect from a golf fanatic who owns a hotel in "golf heaven."
As part of a 10 million pound makeover, new windows and a roof that a ball can't break have been put in. Because the 17th fairway is so hard, golfers have broken roof tiles by going in the wrong direction. So a Canadian company put in recycled car tires that they later turned into tiles. Now, golfers who aren't good should expect their balls to bounce right back at them. Old black-and-white pictures of golfers add to the clubhouse's sense of grandeur and style.
The service is outstanding from the friendly staff. They are helpful, kind, excited about their city, and know a lot about it. In addition, Dukes, the hotel's golf course, is only two miles away, and the Kohler Waters Spa and Leisure Complex just got a significant upgrade.
The spa focuses on water and bathing treatments. In addition, they offer great facials and massages with Comfort Zone, Voya, and Phytomer products. There are also manicures and pedicures by Margaret Dabbs. Herb Kohler runs a plumbing and bathroom company in Wisconsin that sells products worldwide.
There are 144 rooms, 35 of which are suites. Several of the suites have gorgeous views. As for the design of the hotel, credit goes to Jacques Garcia. He has used his signature strong striped wallpaper, rich crimson fabrics, and dark wood furniture. But they do all this in a more subdued way than at his famous Parisian Costes hotels.
Other rooms are more modern and feminine because they have contemporary art and softer, cream-colored paint. Furthermore, Kohler's bathrooms are all made, as you might expect. Free Wi-fi is available for guests.
The Resort has six places to eat and drink. The Road Hole Restaurant is one of them (3 AA rosettes). In addition, jigger Inn, the hotel's traditional pub, serves delicious home-cooked meals, and the elegant casual restaurant, Sands Grill, is a seafood and steak lover's dream. Besides, more than 200 of Scotland's best malt whiskies are available at the Road Hole Bar, an award-winning venue.
The conservatory has been renovated and now provides a modified afternoon tea menu. The Hall of Champions has also been expanded for weddings and gatherings. In addition, the Swilcan Loft, a new 80-cover restaurant featuring new-world cuisine with an outdoor terrace affording spectacular views, will open soon.
The Kohler Waters Spa at the Old Course Hotel is the first Kohler spa outside the United States. Kohler Waters Spa has the best spa facilities globally if you want to do something extraordinary. The best things about the Resort are the swimming pools with waterfalls up to eight feet high.
Additionally, Spa Garden has a beautiful hot tub on the roof. The Signature Thermal Suite has hydrotherapy, sauna rooms, laminar flow showers, and light therapy. There are more than 20 group fitness classes in the fitness center to choose from. Plus, there are also Personal Trainers on-site.
The Duke's, the property's championship golf course in Healthland, is just one of 30 courses. Moreover, a professional service called Golf Concierge that knows a lot about the courses in the area can take care of all of your golfing needs. The Duke's Course has PGA Professionals and a driving range. There is also a putting green, a chipping and bunker area, and a putting green.
The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa offers a stay on the 17th fairway of the course. Golfers will love the beautiful views, but people who don't like golf will enjoy the nearby university town of St. Andrews and a large spa and recreation complex.
