Bardessono opened as a hotel in 2009 on land that had belonged to the Bardessono family since the 1920s. The design makes use of that history without turning the property into a period reconstruction. Tufa stone from the family's old wine-storage building was reused in the hotel's walls and public spaces. Redwood reclaimed from wine casks appears in some ceilings and doors.

Other features work largely out of sight. A ground-source system handles heating and cooling, rooftop solar panels contribute electricity, and drought-tolerant planting helps limit water use. The visible result is a low-profile hotel with natural materials and gardens, rather than a building that advertises its engineering.

The link between accommodation and spa is central to the room design. A King Spa Suite has 550 square feet indoors and 250 square feet outdoors. The King-and-Queen version increases the indoor area to 750 square feet. Gas fireplaces and furnished balconies or courtyards make these rooms useful beyond bedtime, especially on a visit with fewer tasting appointments.

Steam Spa Suites add a soaking tub, steam shower, and private outdoor shower. These are category-specific features, so choose the bathing arrangement as carefully as the bed setup. Tufa Suites have a king bed and 750 square feet, including a 200-square-foot bathroom. Their see-through fireplaces and expanded courtyards make them worth considering when you expect to eat or spend much of an afternoon in the suite.

The Olive Suite brings a different kind of space. Its one-bedroom layout pairs a 328-square-foot parlor with a 550-square-foot bedroom. A second bedroom of the same size can be connected. Outside, a separate 575-square-foot patio has a fountain, fireplace, and dining table for eight. That gives a small group somewhere to gather, though the number of seats does not determine how many guests can stay overnight.

Room choice should be based on outdoor space, privacy, and how much time you expect to spend at the hotel. A short wine weekend may not need the largest category. For a longer visit, a separate parlor can be more useful than an extra bed in the same room. Confirm the layout and occupancy before settling on a shared arrangement.

The Flint, The Jasper, and The Quartole can be reserved separately or combined into a two- or three-bedroom retreat. Each has a living room, king bedroom, dining space, and courtyard, with a private heated plunge pool. They give a gathering more room to spread out than a standard suite, while keeping hotel dining and spa services nearby.

In The Jasper, floor-to-ceiling stacking glass doors open onto a patio, and the dining table seats six. The Quartole has a dining table for eight and adds a soaking tub to its walk-in shower. These details help distinguish the villas when planning meals together or choosing a bathroom.

The Jasper is listed at 1,120 square feet, The Flint at 1,175, and The Quartole at 1,410. Their bathrooms and outdoor areas differ, so there is more to compare than floor area. The Flint, for example, has shower grab bars and a lift for its plunge spa. Guests with mobility requirements should discuss the complete route and bathroom setup with reservations, rather than assume every villa has the same adaptations.

Lucy Restaurant & Bar takes its name from Lucy Bardessono and her family's farming history. The kitchen uses produce from the hotel's organic garden alongside ingredients from nearby suppliers. This gives the restaurant's field-to-fork approach a physical connection to the grounds. Seasonal vegetables help shape the menu, rather than simply appearing as decoration around the main dish.

Lucy's current dining program includes breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner, with a bar, lounge, and patio for less formal visits. Confirm dinner service for your dates when making restaurant plans. Yountville invites ambitious reservations, but Lucy is useful for a first evening after travel or a meal between tastings when you would prefer to stay close.

Lucy also supplies in-room dining. A meal on the courtyard or balcony makes use of space that can otherwise go unused on a busy Napa trip. The villas and Olive Suite give a shared meal a more residential setting. Arrange a larger gathering ahead, including the menu and seating you need, rather than treating it as an ordinary room-service order.

Spa treatment does not always require leaving the suite. Guestrooms are designed to accommodate massages and baths, and a Spa Butler prepares the room before an in-suite appointment. b Spa also has a dedicated therapy center. Arrange your spa appointment separately, choosing between an in-suite treatment and a visit to the therapy center.

The shared rooftop pool is heated and open year-round, with a hot tub, loungers, shaded cabanas, and daybeds against mountain views. Reserved daybeds are subject to availability. Poolside meals are seasonal and weather-dependent, generally running from April through October. The Fitness Deck is also on the rooftop, making this part of the hotel a place for exercise as well as a slow afternoon above the gardens.

The hotel stands on Yount Street, close to the shops, restaurants, and wine addresses that make Yountville convenient on foot. Hotel bicycles provide another way to explore town. This is a useful distinction from a secluded estate: a walk after breakfast or an evening out need not become a separate transport plan.

Exploring the wider valley still calls for planning. Wineries are spread across Napa Valley, and a driver or other arranged transport can make a day of tastings easier. Group visits by area and leave room between reservations. Returning to Yountville should give you time to use the hotel as well: a bath, a swim, or a quiet hour on the patio before dinner.
