This property is one of few examples of Victorian beach resorts that remains. Hotel Del was built entirely of wood. It is second only to the Tillamook Air Museum, Oregon, made from wood.
The property began to show its age in the 1960s. So, they sold it in 1960. They then refurbished and expanded it. Since then, the property has been sold many times. Blackstone Group LP now owns it. Hilton Hotels assumed management of Hotel del Coronado in August 2017.
