The Peninsula New York

The Peninsula New York is a Fifth Avenue luxury hotel at 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Its 1905 landmark building contains 219 rooms and suites, with a glass-enclosed pool and a rooftop lounge above the surrounding streets. Central Park, MoMA and Rockefeller Center are close by, making the address a natural starting point for art, shopping and walks through Midtown.

Bill Rooney Studio's interiors reference Manhattan in the 1920s. White jacquard textiles, Quagliotti bed linens and etched glass sit alongside contemporary lighting, artwork and books. In-room tablets work in six languages, and bedside panels control lighting and temperature.

The Museum of Modern Art is on West 53rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just south of the hotel. Its collections span painting, sculpture, photography, film and design. Central Park begins at 59th Street, a few blocks to the north, with paths that lead away from the avenue into the park. Rockefeller Center lies farther south around 50th Street, with shopping, restaurants and Top of the Rock's observation decks. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is farther up Fifth Avenue at 81st Street, on the Upper East Side. Its collections extend from Egyptian and Greek galleries to the American Wing and European paintings.

The Deluxe Room has a king bed and 440 square feet of space, with a listed capacity of three guests. Its outlook can be either inward or toward 55th Street, so a street view is not standard in this category. Double-glazed windows are part of the room design. In the marble bathroom, a walk-in shower is separate from the deep bathtub, which has a television above it. Deluxe Rooms can connect to a Grand Luxe Double or a Junior Suite.

The signature collection comprises the Grand Suite, Fifth Avenue Suite and The Peninsula Suite. The Grand Suite occupies a corner on the twentieth floor, with views along Fifth Avenue and toward Central Park. It measures 1,625 square feet and has a king bedroom, a living room with a decorative fireplace, and a separate dining room seating eight. A butler's pantry serves the dining area. Two large walk-in closets and a dressing area accompany the bedroom, while the marble bathroom has double basins. There is also a guest powder room. The Grand Suite can connect to a room with two queen beds.

Camp Peninsula is a paid add-on for up to two children, arranged with at least 48 hours' notice and subject to availability. A tent is set up in the accommodation, accompanied by a personalized welcome card and s'mores. Children's robes and slippers are part of the experience, along with a hotel scavenger hunt. An adult must accompany children during the activities. For a family needing separate bedrooms, the Fifth Avenue Suite can connect to a Grand Luxe Room to form a two-bedroom arrangement. Adding a Deluxe Suite and Grand Luxe Room creates a three-bedroom configuration. The Peninsula Suite also has a three-bedroom option through a connection to a Deluxe Suite. These layouts must be reserved as connected accommodation, not assumed from separate bookings. Describe the number of adults and children when asking for a proposal, including which bedrooms need to connect directly. The distinction matters when younger children need to sleep near their parents, or when a multigenerational party wants shared living space without sharing bedrooms.

Clement serves contemporary American food on the lobby mezzanine. The restaurant is arranged across three distinct dining spaces, with an adjoining bar and a menu overseen by executive chef Malte Kontor. Breakfast and lunch are served during the week, and the weekend brings Saturday brunch and a Sunday brunch buffet. Dinner is not part of its regular service. The setting lends itself to a morning meal before heading out or a longer lunch between visits to nearby museums and shops.

The Bar at Clement looks onto Fifth Avenue and serves cocktails, wine and beer with light bar food. Its low-lit room gives the mezzanine a place for an evening drink as well as daytime dining. Meals can also be served in your room at any hour.

Pen Top is the hotel's rooftop bar and lounge on the twenty-third floor. Greenery and sofas give the room an artist's-loft feel, with a movable louvered roof overhead. Indoor seating and outdoor terraces look across the Manhattan skyline, with cocktails and light bites served above Fifth Avenue. Martinis and other classic drinks are central to the bar's identity, alongside a wine selection.

The indoor pool is on the twenty-second floor, enclosed by glass. Tall teak columns and a black tile floor define the poolside setting. Poolside dining includes dishes from the Naturally Peninsula menu, and the pool opens daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The high-floor position brings daylight into the room, with swimming sheltered from the weather outside. Seating beside the water provides space to rest between swims or have something to eat.

One floor below, The Peninsula Spa has 11 treatment rooms, including a private spa suite. There is a tea lounge and separate men's and women's relaxation rooms, plus saunas, aromatherapy steam rooms, experience showers and ice fountains. Treatments include Biologique Recherche facials and the signature Deep Tissue Experience. Treatments are listed for ages 18 and over; arrangements for accompanied younger guests require clarification with the spa. Hotel guests have access to the pool and fitness center, while day-spa visitors need at least two hours of services for access to those facilities.

The twenty-second-floor fitness center uses Technogym equipment in a daylit space with bamboo flooring, teak accents and skyline views. Personal trainers can arrange individual coaching sessions and tailored exercise programs. The gym is open 24 hours a day and is for guests aged 18 and over.

For arrivals and departures, the hotel can arrange airport transfers and chauffeur services. Valet parking is available, as are same-day laundry and dry cleaning. A 24-hour concierge handles requests throughout the stay, from transport arrangements to plans for time in the city.

Why we love this hotel

Why we love this hotel

The glass-enclosed indoor pool gives guests a place to swim away from busy streets, without needing to leave the hotel.

Clement begins breakfast at 6:30 am, making a sit-down morning meal possible before an early meeting or a day of sightseeing.

The paid Camp Peninsula add-on brings an in-room tent and scavenger hunt to young guests, making the hotel part of their adventure.
